Week 10

Off the top of my head I can't think of learning anything spectacularly new. However I did stick around late on tuesday while the spader verdict was coming in. Observing not just normal breaking news but a media event was interesting, live cut ins for both the verdict and the sentencing it was pretty exciting plus I tried helping at on point by hopping on prompter. Fat lot a good that did, the anchor was playing it by hear as was everyone so that about 90 seconds into the cut in any sort a script went out the window. Fine of course since the script was only filler conversation while we waited on air with a little follow-up chat (not that it really got used as I recall). but yeah that was it.

Week 9

Hell yeah a sign of progress emerges, but first... Most of the week has been pretty benign, everything pretty ramped up for the debates and the start of sweeps but all that means is I watched the debates from the control room and briefly help breakdown on Thursday. Still a good week, till Friday, then Progress! On Friday during taping for both Close Up and NH Business we had multiple guests which required panning between them quickly. For Some reason this is a skill which I have struggled with but on Friday not only did I do it correctly but during NH Business I improvised and over the shoulder shot which the director liked. Man I was glad to see signs of progress, it felt lie I was stagnating.

weeks 7+8

During these weeks not much changed still don't quite have tapes down for promos but I am better. Got to help out some setting up for the Granite State Debates, which went much quicker since we had a light chart from the primary debates. Talked to people about how the got started in the industry and things like that. But all in all much the same.

Week 6

Week six, I am still trying to get on tapes when I can (mostly I need to remember the sequence of events necessary to get setup, but I think I almost have it). I was also told I need to practice pushes more (yeah six weeks in and I haven't got that down yet, I kinda suck). And the 5 O'clock on Thursday was sort of a mess due to a variety of errors, but that just means everyone had to stay on their toes and that made it a bit interesting (in my opinion, I'm sure Pete would have preferred dull and correct but whatev it happens).

Week 5

Week 5 was very much like the others, save near the end of the week it was no longer to plug a headset into any of the cameras and so that on friday an RTS box on a long tether was tied into the floor. Also I started to learn to do tapes for promos.

Week 4

This week I learned how to do audio for promos, at the start of the week I was a mess but my the end I wasn't perfect but a decent bit better than at the start (to the tune of maybe one flub for a set of promos on my end). I am continuing to practice prompter and camera and learn to remember small but necessary tasks like turning on captioning when doing teases and counting people down while on camera (as apposed assume that someone else will). However when doing Close UP on friday I made the same camera error I did last week, so not much progress there yet.

Week 3

I am re-using this blog as the means of updating my journal for my internship. Seeing as the original use was school related as well it seemed an appropriate choice. In the third week here at WMUR I continued by in large to do more of the same, camera & prompter however I had the chance to royally F-up two new tasks. I was asked to work camera on one of the taped segments where in one of our anchors interviews guests and as camera I have to try and keep up with who will be talking and quickly whip the camera to them. Yeah, that didn't work out so good for me. The second thing was working the board for promos, which once you know it is just repetition however the I was flustered with it the first go and it is the most complex of stations for promo. Afterwards the director admitted I likely should have started on audio, but that I could hop on that next week.
